The 492-megawatt Maverick Creek Wind Project, estimated between a $650 – $700 million to develop, features 127 wind turbines in central Concho County, Texas. The project was initiated by Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. in 2016 and sold to Liberty Power in 2019.
The project will generate $10 million in economic activity in Concho County during construction while supporting approximately 200 direct, indirect and induced jobs. Beyond the one-time economic impacts from construction, direct operating expenditures at Maverick Creek upon completion will generate an estimated $50 million annually within Concho County.
The wind project’s operation also will yield increases in state and local tax bases. The increases in economic output and employment associated with the wind farm’s operations also yield increases in state and local tax bases, with $3,100,000+ annually to the state in income, sales and business taxes. Each year, $1.4 million will go to the School District, $1.3 million will go to the County, $400 thousand will go to the Hospital and $21 thousand will go to the Water District.
